French theme-ish, recent music - 10-midnight [May 16 2005]

(Show Title and Date/Time in Subject above)
DJ name: N8

Happy birthday to my brother Amos who recently moved to Alaska. I've always wanted to go there, I bet it's amazingly beautiful.

I recently heard Nina Simone for the first time... she's awe-inspiring, so I played a bunch of her stuff to start it off, even more than I was planning on. I hadn't heard the new Brian Bromberg yet, so I tossed a couple of those on to transition to my fave Radiohead song from Hail to the Thief into a long set from Stereolab, then some Monade (Stereolab side project, great live I recently discovered). The Robot Ate Me recently played at the Cold Lab in Moscow and I was equally blown away, so I played a few of my faves from his new album Carousel Waltz. (The song writing is so beautiful and passionate a few of the songs almost make me want to cry they're so good.) Finished it off with some M.I.A., also amazing live as it turns out ("Pull up the people!").

1) My Baby Just Cares For Me [Nina Simone]
2) The Other Woman [Nina Simone]
3) Black Is The Color of My True Love's Hair [Nina Simone]
4) I Put A Spell On You [Nina Simone]
5) Ne Me Quitte Pas [Nina Simone]

8) Sinner Man [Nina Simone]
9) Buddha Belly [Brian Bromberg]
10) The Dungeon [Brian Bromberg]
11) Go To Sleep (Little Man Being Erased) [Radiohead]
12) Jenny Ondioline [Stereolab]
13) Three-Dee Melodie [Stereolab]
14) Wow and Flutter [Stereolab]
15) Transona Five [Stereolab]
16) Pas Toujours [Monade]
17) Bad Feelings [The Robot Ate Me]
18) All Good Things [The Robot Ate Me]
19) Interlude [The Robot Ate Me]

Noam n' Rjd2, together again (for the first time?) - Mon. 4.18.05

(Show Title and Date/Time in Subject above)
DJ name: N8

Partially to help promote Noam Chomsky this Friday in Pullman and partially because I wanted to hear it again, I again played his CD The New War On Terrorism: Fact and Fiction on G7 Welcoming Committee Records, a fantastic Canadian label. So: Noam Chomsky will be in Pullman at Beasley Coliseum this Friday at 3:30p. It's free. Please check it out. According to the Beasley Web site, for "Ticket Information" call: 509-335-1514 // for "Phone Orders" call TicketsWest at 1-800-325-SEAT. Actually, this may not work; I called them last week and he wasn't familiar with phone orders for free events. Why would he? They can't really make that much $ with selling tix for free events.

HOUR ONE
1) The New War On Terrorism: Fact and Fiction [Noam Chomsky]
with the collection In Rare Form... Unreleased Instrumentals by Rjd2 as bed music

All those good beats had me jonesin' for more Rjd2, so his most recent album made for more good listening:

HOUR TWO
2) Since We Last Spoke [Rjd2]

Monday, April 11, 2005

(Show Title and Date/Time in Subject above)
DJ name: Nate Prudhon a.k.a. N8

The first hour was a Noam Chomsky talk with instrumental DJ Krush under. Chomsky is coming to WSU later this month... April 22nd, I was told. I was also told it's free. If you're not doing something very important you should go see him. Please. Do it for the children. Or yourself, if you're selfish like that. Or do it for me if you like doing things for people you may not know that well.

Also: turns out it's hard to not play sociopolitical music after listening to a great talk by Noam Chomsky.

HOUR 1
1) Noam Chomsky - The New War On Terrorism: Fact and Fiction
MUSIC: instrumental selections from "The Message At The Depth" and "Jaku", albums by DJ Krush.

Sage Francis Fest, etc. [1.17.05, 10p-midnight]

(Show Title and Date/Time in Subject above)
DJ name: Nate Prudhon

This is a show with much Sage Francis, one of the better politically and socially conscious rappers. I decided to do this show for a couple reasons: 1) my new show time is after 10p, so I don't have to mind the profanity and 2) Sage has a new album out, and it's good.

The first 3 are from the excellent (mostly) instrumental concept album by DJ Signify called "Sleep No More", which also has some good raps by Buck 65. The next several after that are from his new solo album "A Healthy Distrust". "Hey Bobby" is the b-side to "Slow Down Gandhi", the first single from "A Healthy Distrust." Makeshift Patriot is from the Epitaph compilation "Punk-O-Rama 8".
All songs Sage Francis unless otherwise noted.

1) Kiddie Litter [DJ Signify with Sage Francis]

Not a real playlist today. For my first show I was pretty much getting used to the board and the station and looking through the record collection. Most of the music was from a couple of compilations from On-U records, sort of mutant dub reggae. Next time I'll put together a complete playlist.
